Opening Day Net Tournament

All returning veterans from last year compete in this one day net tournament. Handicaps established last year will be used to crown a net champion.

 Rookie Tournament

All new players and returning veterans that did not play in the league last year will compete as Rookies in this one day net event. Handicaps will be assigned by the Executive Director.

Greg Norman Shoot-Out played in three parts

The league is divided into four man divisions. Each division will have either 5 or 6 two man teams matching their accumulated scores (defined below), against their own respective division of play. As best we can, you will be placed with similar handicaps.

As a tie breaker, both of your net scores for all three parts will be added together and matched against the other teams in your division.

Part 1 - (Best Ball)

As you and your partner record your individual scores, the lower of the two net scores (on each hole) will count towards your total team score for part 1.

Part 2 - (Total Net - Both Partners Combined)

Both partners add their net scores together and this number is added to the cumulative score from part 1.

Part 3 -  (Alternating Holes)

Before you tee off for this round, you and your partner decide which of your net scores will count on the first hole. From then on, you alternate holes. If you start on the front and choose to go first, then your partners score will count on the 2nd, 4th, 6th and 8th holes. PLEASE keep in mind on those holes where your partner has chosen the responsibility, you must try your best, BECAUSE the tie breaker is still in force. ALL SCORES count towards the tie-breaker.

The team with the lowest cumulative total for the 3 part tournament will win their respective division of play.

Special Note:

The partner that you will be assigned will be the same for all three parts of this tournament. As a team, you must have played together in two of the three events in order to qualify for the championship. Substitutes will be used as they become available and will be assigned on a first to notify me basis.

A, B, C, D. - Team Net Best Ball (a.k.a 4 Man Best Ball & 2 Man Best Ball)

The Executive Director will create four man teams consisting of a player from each group. Typically and “A” players handicap is between 1 to 4. The “B” could go as high as 7, the “C” up to 9 and the “D” players would be in the highest range.

The ABCD is a one week tournament and the 4 Man Best Ball is a two week tournament. This gives the chance to mix up the league.

The 2-Man Net Best Ball tournament is a one week and counts the teams best net ball total against the league.

Spring Championship

Because so many of you have voiced your displeasure with the Spring Consolation Tournament and since this precedes the Spring Championship, I have taken a vote (and it passed unanimously by a 1 to 0 score) therefore, I am retiring the Spring Championship, as you knew it.

In this 5 week timeframe, I have created two new tournaments. The first will be a two week

4-Man Best Ball event (ABCD format) and the second will be called the Spring Championship and the format will be Match play with each hole won counting as a point.

Tie breakers will be the points and then head to head competition.

Notice to Spring Championship Players!

If a match is tied after nine holes, you must continue play until one person wins a hole. This is done by holding a putt off at the putting green. In the putt-off you start from a distance of twenty feet and continue to move in by 2 feet until someone wins the hole. The person who holes his ball in the fewest putts, is the winner.

Beat the Golfer of the Year (or designate) as so deemed by the Executive Director

We will all be trying to beat the Player of Previous Year's (POPY) net score from tonight. Ties do not count. For each player participating in tonight’s event, Mr. Devino will donate $1 per player into the total purse. If only one player beats the POPY, that player will take the purse (awarded at the year end banquet). If more than one player beats POPY, those players will share in the purse equally. If no one beats POPY, then POPY walks away with all the loot and a hand shake from the Executive Director. Good Luck to everyone

Summer Championship

This unique event is run over 5 weeks and tracks both your Individual and Team scores each week during this championship. You may win the Individual, Team or both. Much of this depends on how well you are playing and the luck of drawing hot partners.

Because this is played in the middle of most everyone’s vacation period, it is felt that, to be fair to everyone, only 3 of the 5 possible scores will count. For the Individual part of this tournament its you against the league, matching your best net scores. Usually 7 under par will win this portion of the tournament.

For the Team competition, you will be assigned a different partner for each of the 5 weeks. If  you are going to be out for any portion of this time, please notify the Executive Director and your playing partner as well. If your partner is not available, the Executive Director will tell you which of the other players will be your partner. This results in a threesome for playing purposes. In this type of situation, the assigned partner may help you improve on your score; however you may not help him (he already has a playing partner). Typically 15 to 17 under par wins the Team event.

Red, White, Blue and Green Shirt All Stars Skins Competition

The Executive Director will divide the league into 4 teams with 11 players. Each team will have players seeded from 1 to 11. The corresponding seed in each division will play in a four way “SKINS” match.

The format is the same that is used in SKINS competition as seen on the P.G.A.  Each hole is worth 1 skin. In order to win the skin you must have a lower score than all of the other players in your foursome. Each foursome has a member representing the Team Color. On this day you will be asked to wear Red, White, Blue or Green golf shirt, depending on the team you represent. The team with the most skins at the end of the matches wins the competition.

Holes that are not won outright are carried over to the next hole. If at the end of the match you are still have carry overs in effect then you must proceed to the putting green for a Putt-Off to determine a winner of whatever skins have not been won up to that point. In the Putt-Off you start from 20 feet (at this point this is no longer a two-tie all tie, the players with the lower number of putts advances. If no winner is produced at the 20 foot mark you start over at the same hole but move the starting point in by one foot and continue on until there is a winner.

Junior, Senior, Super Seniors and Legends

All players that have not reached their 55th birthday (by the date of this tournament) are deemed to be Juniors. Players between 55 and 64 are considered Seniors. Players between 65 and 69 are considered Super Seniors. Players 70 years old and above have earned the right to play in the "LEGENDS" division. These ages change every year depending on how many in each age group.

This two week net tournament matches each of these divisions of players against only their respective divisions.

You need to get as far under par in two weeks as you can. No one can substitute for you and you must have played both weeks to be eligible to win.

Fall Championship

Each hole will be worth “2” points. This is a net tournament matching your lowest net ball against your opponent’s lowest. If you beat them, then you win “1” point. The two remaining scores are then matched against each other. If your team again has the lower net score then you win another point or “2” points for the hole. If you lose the second ball, then both teams would have won, and the hole is not counted. If you had a tie on the second ball then your point from the first would still be a winner and you therefore won a point..

At the end of the match, the team with the most points wins the match. If you are tied, you must go to a putt-off.

Total points will be used as a tie breaker to determine the Fall Champion if the won and lost records are the same. If the Total points are the same then If the teams that are tied played each other I will use the results of their match to determine a winner. If none of this works then it will be declared a tie for the Championship.

PUTT-OFF (this only applies to the Fall Championship):

The team with the last honors will start the putt-off from approximately 20 feet.

The format is the same as the tournament.

After everyone has holed out you determine the high and the low (number of putts) and if one team has won one or more points then you are done, if the match is tied you move to the 19 foot mark and the other team starts this time. Keep moving in by a foot until a winner is decided.

Substitutes:

If both teams have one player missing, the remaining two will play each other.

If only one team has a player missing, I will draw a player after the matches are completed.

We will always be working off the low handicap for these Match Play events -

NABISCO Team Competition

Normally, rookies are not (initially) eligible for this competition This is at the discretion of the Executive Director (my computer, my rules). This competition runs from week 4 until the last week of the season.

The way it works: The league is divided into seven six man teams. The top seven players in the league (so designated by the lowest gross average from last year) are the team captains. On the night of the opening banquet, it is their duty to draw at random, 5 additional players to form their respective teams. The Executive Director will chair this event.

Every attempt is made to set up each team with the same amount of total handicap. The beauty of this competition is that any player can contribute any week. After play each week, the computer will pick the lowest three net scores from each team and match this number against the other teams in our league. The team with the lowest score is deemed to be in the lead. The team with the lowest net total at the end of the year will win the competition. This event usually goes right down to the final week.

During the year, you will be placed with a variety of different partners for the various events, please do not confuse this with the NABISCO competition. The NABISCO is a tournament within all the various tournaments.
